It's snowing, and we had a feeling you were thinking about brapping! Too soon to predict if trails are opening 12/16 but at least you can see what changes are coming this season. Us Cronchers were working hard on four fantastic, major projects in addition to the usual debrushing, brush hogging, tree clearing, and signage. And, not as fun, but very important for you to know, is last minute, we had an unexpected reroute on South Hill which will be under "IMPORTANT INFO" below. Please read that part.
Major projects are:
Taking the "camel hump" out of the 127 trail in the Highland Views neighborhood off of Bixby Rd. If you remember, there was a steep "up and down" piece of the trail that was a little challenging for snowmobilers and the groomer to navigate. That has been filled in and now is a smooth hill.
Added drainage and culverts to 127 near the Hideaway to improve some soupy areas.
Awesome reroute on 127A to get us off a 1/3 mile stretch on North Hill Pent Rd so we can stay in the woods. Includes a new bridge. Instead of going up 127A onto North Hill Pent Rd, you will bear left (if heading towards the town of Ludlow) and stay in the woods. At the end of the reroute, you will cross Nelson Rd (as we did before) but in a slightly different location near the original location. Big THANKS to Chad for helping us to score some culverts and to our friends who helped us to get poles for the bridge!
We are getting a new Pisten Bully groomer!!! The old groomer was not a complete fit for our trails so we traded in the old groomer, and ordered a new groomer that is a bit more beefy and suitable for our needs. Praying it arrives soon. We know it is actively being put together for us. Bonus is that Pete at SignPro in CT is hooking up with Croncher graphics for it. Thanks, Pete, and the crew at SignPro! This is a stretch purchase for sure but will help all of us. Definitely any donations are very appreciated!
**** IMPORTANT INFO ON SOUTH HILL REROUTE ***
One critical piece of Corridor 127 in the South Hill area of Ludlow was unexpectedly closed recently when the landowner revoked permission. We were very grateful for the time we were able to use that land, but now it is time to figure out a new route. Since we did not have much notice, and options on South Hill area are very limited, we had to route the trail onto the road for 1/3 mile. Trail 127 used to cross Godfrey Rd but now it goes down Godfrey and onto South Hill and goes back into the trail where it used to near where Peace's farm stand was. Also, sadly, Touch Of Peace Farm has moved and will no longer be serving food on the trail this year.
!!!!VERY IMPORTANT!!!!PLEASE READ!!!!
This is a SENSITIVE area. In order to even be able to go on the road, we had to agree to a few things:
10PM CURFEW! There is a 10PM curfew on the trail. We know it is an important area to connect to a lot of places so please plan your trips accordingly.
Speed limit is 25 mph on the road.
Be cautious of cars.
Be as quiet as possible.
WE NEED to abide by these rules or we may lose the connection between the two sides of our trail system.
These changes emphasize how truly important landowners are and we should never take them granted. One trail closure can cause the network can collapse very easily.
ANOTHER CAUTION:
Another important note is that logging will continue on 127 near Station Rd/Healdville this season and the trail will be plowed over there in an even bigger area. Be careful and mindful of the logging crew and equipment. There is potential to see cross-country skiers in that area as well.
It's truly impressive how much a small group of Cronchers can pull off. Thank you landowners, volunteers, and to all those who support us! Check out the pics! Click on them for a full view.
