02-20-2025 - Trail Report with 2/21 Update

Writer: SnowflakeSnowflake

Updated: Feb 21

Making great progress! Not only did we have a big storm to clean up after, we had the added challenge of the groomer breaking down last Monday. As you recall, our groomer broke down on Monday when grooming North Hill. When the groomer shop said they could not have a tech out here for 2.5 weeks, our volunteers stepped up. One of the parts needed arrived on Wednesday and our volunteer mechanics got the groomer back in action. It is only partially repaired since another part is needed, but the groomer should be able to go out while we wait for the 2nd part to be shipped. Other volunteers went out on the trail this week and cleaned up trees. A bunch of trees were cleaned up today. The wind storm last weekend brought us some great snow but it also brought a lot of work. THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! There are not many of you who step up like that and it is super appreciated.

On Friday, the groomer will be going out cutting wind drifts and after that, regular grooming with the drag will begin (not sure of timing). Hoping that the partial repair holds up until the full repair can be done. Once we get done with all this, the trails will be awesome! Stay tuned...

02/21/2025 - UPDATE! The groomer is back in action! Yay! The rest of the parts we needed to fully complete the repair came in earlier than expected so the repair was completed today. Early tomorrow (Saturday) the groomer, without the drag, will go out to knock down the snow drifts. Afterwards, regular grooming with the drag will begin. Please use caution as you may encounter the groomer on the trail. If the groomer is heading at you, please pull over as you way more maneuverable than the groomer and the groomer has the right of way. You are responsible to be out of the way of the groomer. If you get stuck behind the groomer, wait to pass the groomer until the operator waves you on. It is much safer for everyone as he may not know you are there immediately. There last tree down that we knew about on the East Lake Rd Access Trail has been moved (thanks, for the info, Mike W and to whomever moved it!). It will help grooming operations tremendously. If you know of any other trees, let us know. Awesome volunteers cleared up a ton of trees this week but there may be one or two still down. We're getting there!
